Project&, in collaboration with Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Lynsey Addario, presents Working in America, a multimedia exhibit designed by Jeanne Gang and Studio Gang Architects, conceived and curated by Jane M Saks and hosted by Chicago Public Library. The exhibit is on display September 14 to January 30 at Harold Washington Library Center, 3rd Floor North.
"Working in America takes an intimate look at how we feel about work.
Through powerful photographs and honest stories, Working in America explores the relationships between the social, cultural, physical and psychological realities of work that shape everyday life.
Inspired by Studs Terkel’s influential book Working: People Talk About What They Do All Day and How They Feel About What They Do, the exhibit profiles 24 people whose experiences represent the daily challenges and triumphs of working. Veterans, janitors, tech workers, farmers, athletes, artists, entrepreneurs, elected officials and others tell their stories in raw and authentic terms.
The narratives of Working in America allow us to explore the trials and tribulations of work as well its rewards and satisfaction.
When you check out the exhibit, you can contribute your stories of work experiences to the online repository, 'Your Working Story.' "
